come follow February 7, 2010

Jesus cries out to us to come follow. And we do, from a distance. This is a far cry from what our faith should be. The only way we can become more and more like Jesus is to follow close behind Him. We may pray that we’ll become more and more like Jesus but so often we aren’t willing to pay the price. When we come follow He asks us to carry our cross as well. True discipleship demands our all, this is why we should come into His Presence and find strength in prayer.

“How hard is it sometimes to get leave of hearts to seek God! Jesus Christ went more willingly to the cross than we do to the throne of grace.” Robert Murray M’Cheyne.

As you begin this new decade you may not know that this year marks the 1Oth Birthday of 24-7 prayer.

In ten short years, 24-7prayer rooms have spread like a virus from humble beginnings on the South Coast of England into more than 100 nations around the world.

One of those nations being Ireland and the journey here has been incredible. Hundreds of people have prayed non-stop, hundreds of prayer rooms have been set up in a range of locations in which many people were loved, inspired, listened to, rescued, served and given a voice, churches united, mission was birthed, roadtrips and Ibiza trips taken and the most amazing thing is each person has there own story and experience that 24-7 has brought them on.

We want to mark this moment 24-7 prayer’s tenth birthday party with our own celebration with people like yourself who have been apart of 24-7 prayer here in Ireland to come together to celebrate and share all that God has done and yet to do!!

We will hear some stories from the first 24-7prayer rooms in Ireland, worship together and of course have a birthday cake & balloons! It will be a great nights craic and a chance for us to hang out together.

The details are:

Wednesday 17th February
Aldersgate House (University Rd)
7.30pm

IF YOU WANT TO KNOW MORE CONTACT ME AND I’LL PUT YOU IN TOUCH WITH THE 24-7 PRAYER IRELAND TEAM…

what’s your vision? January 30, 2010

I can’t believe it’s been a year since we had our weekend of prayer, how time flies! It’s got me thinking, what’s our vision? Has it remained the same? Our vision should be simply, and solely, Jesus. If it’s anything else it’s nothing at all.

the price He paid January 24, 2010

As you read my ramblings just think of the price He paid.  As you do as ask yourself what have you done for Jesus today?  He redeemed us, He bought us back with His blood, it’s about time we thanked Him for it, whether that be in word or in works…
The price Jesus paid, it’s too much to take in.  The sacrifice He suffered was, is and always will be indescribable.  The weight of the worlds sin on His shoulders, indefinable.  The agony that He felt, inexpressible.  Death demanded His life, He surrendered Himself, “He suffered death for us… Jesus tasted death for everyone” (Hebrews 2:9 NLT). Jesus died, for one and all.  That includes you.  The cost of the cross didn’t come cheap.  Its invaluable, incomparable and incalculable.  Every drop of blood He shed for us was precious, His love for us is without measure.  He bought our freedom with His blood, sweat, and tears.
So often we only ever think that our sin cost Him His life, far from it. It asked a lot more of Him. Jesus didn’t just give up His last breathe, He gave up every ounce of Himself. Every day that He ever lived on the earth spoke of suffering.  He not only carried our cross, He carried our sin and shame as well.  The destiny of the Divinity was to carry a cross, our cross.
He not only bore the burdens of the world, our sin sat on His shoulders. It wasn’t the cross that weighed Him down, it was our sin. The blood that should have been on our heads was on His hands. Our sinless Saviour was shamed with our sin. Right now, why don’t you come before the cross and confess? Praise Him for the price He paid!

make my life a prayer to you January 24, 2010

What if we made this our prayer for today?  Maybe we’d live differently?  Maybe those around us would too?

“Make my life a prayer to You
I want to do what You want me to
No empty words, no white lies
No token prayers, no compromise
I want to shine the light You gave
Through Your Son You sent to save us
From ourselves and our despair
It comforts me to know You’re really there
Well, I want to thank You now for being patient with me
Oh, it’s so hard to see when my eyes are on me
I guess I’ll have to trust and just believe what You say
Oh, You’re coming again, coming to take me away
I want to die and let You give Your life to me that I might live
And share the hope You gave the me
The love that set me free
I want to tell the world out there
You’re not something or fairy tale
That I’ve made up inside my head
You’re God the Son, You’ve risen from the dead
I want to die and let You give Your life to me that I might live
And share the hope You gave to me
I want to share the love that set me free”

Haiti desperately needs our prayers! January 16, 2010

Why don’t we respond to this emergency appeal by offering up our prayers for Haiti?  We may not know their every need but we do know this: Haiti is in desperate need of our prayers.

“Concern has launched an urgent emergency appeal to respond to the damage caused by Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti that measured 7.0 on the Richter scale.

The death toll, currently at nearly 100,000 is expected to keep climbing after the quake. Haiti was hit just before 5pm EST on January 12, wreaking havoc in the congested capital of Port au Prince, just 10 miles from the quake’s epicenter in Carrefour–a mountainous suburb of shantytowns that extend a mile up from the valley floor—located just minutes from where Concern works.

Most of the structures in Port-au-Prince’s vast and overcrowded slum communities are built with raw concrete walls and metal roofs, and the majority have been utterly razed, causing widespread devastation. Hundreds of thousands of traumatized residents in the surrounding areas of Port-au-Prince have now been forced onto the streets with nowhere to go, in a disaster that has affected an estimated three million people, according to the Red Cross.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere: in 2008, four back-to-back hurricanes affected 800,000 people and resulted in catastrophic damage to homes, crops, schools, roads, and communications infrastructure.

Wednesday’s aftershocks measured 5.9 and continued to rattle the city hours after the quake; the capital Port-au-Prince was said to be in total darkness, with thousands of people left without any form of shelter and thousands more buried under rubble.

Telephone and power lines were down, making it difficult to communicate and assess the full extent of the damage, although attempts are being made to dig people out from the rubble of fallen buildings, among them, the five-story United Nations building in which at least 36 UN staff have been confirmed dead with 150 more missing, a three-storey hospital in Petion Ville, the presidential palace, and several more government buildings and international embassies. Haiti’s envoy to the US said the cost of the damage could run into billions.”

the POWER of God January 8, 2010

On the first of January 1839 John Wesley gathered friends to pray through the night. He recorded in his journal:
“about three in the morning as we were continuing instant in prayer the power of God came mightly upon us in so much that many cried out for exceeding joy and many fell to the ground.”
From here they preached and converted across the British Isles and a revival began that led to social change, abolition of slavery and massive numbers turning to Christ…
What will God stir in the hearts of people dedicated to prayer in our time…

a new day, a new decade! January 1, 2010

Not only is it the start of a new day, but of a new decade!  God has great things for us in store and today is the day we start to discover them.  For me 2010 speaks of new experiences and new opportunities, I hope that we all realise the fresh start that awaits us.  If there’s things you’d rather forget about 2009 focus on 2010.  Forgetting about the past and striving for the future.
Now I know that New Years Resolutions don’t work for everyone but they’re worth a try.  I’d encourage you to not only make a promise to yourself but to God as well.  Think outside of yourself, don’t just promise to fight the flab or cut down on your spending.  How about promising God to do good?  How about making a promise to get your prayer-life on track, read your Bible every day, take part in Christian service, campaign for justice, or become more active in your Church?  What about volunteering for Enniskillen Youth For Christ or supporting the work of the prayer room?  Seriously consider this.
Remember this: if God is in the centre of your New Years Resolution you are sure to succeed.  If you’re struggling to keep your promise, struggle on- He will help you.  Oh and, Happy New Year! Praying God’s richest blessings on you all in the incoming year… connie :]
